DUII suspect hits 2 pedestrians in Portland, leaving 1 critically injured

PORTLAND, Ore. — A suspected intoxicated driver hit two pedestrians, leaving one in critical condition, early Saturday morning in Portland.

The collision occurred at around 1:15 a.m. on West Burnside Street at Northwest 16th Avenue.

One pedestrian, a man, was unconscious when officers arrived and taken to a hospital. He is in critical condition, according to Portland police. The other pedestrian, a woman, suffered minor injuries.

The driver, 39-year-old Ian Cupples, stayed at the scene. He was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, third-degree assault and reckless driving.
