PORTLAND, Oregon — A person was killed in a house fire early Friday morning on Northwest Meek Road in Hillsboro.

Around 12:55 a.m., a 911 caller, who lives across the street, reported being woken up by light from the flames, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVF&R) said.

Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff's Office saw heavy, black smoke and fire coming from the roof. Heavy smoke and fire were near the home's doors, and the doorknobs were hot to touch. Firefighters started to extinguish the fire and searched the home. They found one person inside who was dead, TVF&R said. The person has not been identified.

Firefighters with TVF&R and Hillsboro Fire & Rescue were able to get the fire under control.

TVF&R fire investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
