Residents worried after bullets hit 2 different houses in the same Southeast Portland neighborhood

One Southeast Portland neighborhood is concerned after two houses were hit by bullets last week. In both cases, nobody was hurt, but neighbors wonder what happened.

PORTLAND, Ore. — It was a close call earlier this month for not one — but two — homeowners in Southeast Portland after bullets hit their homes last week. Now, the homes' owners are trying to figure out where the bullets came from and who pulled the trigger.

“You would never think of something like that. I mean, it’s always been a safe place for the most part, never expected a bullet to come through, so it’s kind of unnerving,” said Dan Saula, whose house was hit by a bullet on April 9.

Saula said that his wife was working in the back of the house when she heard a noise last Tuesday night, but she didn’t notice anything until the morning. When she came out to the dining room, she saw shards of broken glass all over the place.

“(Saula's wife) heard a loud noise, and the dog started to get really riled up. She didn’t check the dining room, but looked outside the back door and didn’t see anything,” Saula said.

The bullet didn’t hit anyone but shattered a mirror that was hanging above the buffet table in their kitchen. What Saula wants to know is how a bullet could come through his front window, since the front of his house is blocked by trees.

That same night, just on the other side of the neighborhood, another house was hit by gunfire.

This time, it was a home along 144th Avenue, where a bullet came through the garage door. The bullet also went through some plastic storage tubs and into a folding card table.

Thankfully in both cases nobody was hurt, but not knowing where the bullets came from has both households concerned.
