GRESHAM, Ore. — A Gresham man is facing murder charges for the December 2023 stabbing that killed a man who was homeless, according to the Gresham Police Department.

A grand jury indicted 20-year-old Antony Kassab on April 12. He faces charges of murder in the second-degree and unlawful use of a weapon in the fatal stabbing of 35-year-old Cody Funk in Gresham on Dec. 26.

On that morning, the body of Funk was found near the intersection of Southeast 190th Avenue and Southeast Division Street, according to Gresham police. An autopsy later found Funk died due to multiple stab wounds and was homeless at the time he was attacked and killed, Gresham police said.

Kassab was already in custody facing attempted murder charges in another stabbing in February. The victim, David McQuown, was also homeless at the time he was attacked, according to Gresham police.

“This suspect targeted particularly vulnerable members of the community.  His behavior has no place in Gresham. Our detectives worked tirelessly to seek justice for Mr. Funk and Mr. McQuown,” said Police Chief Travis Gullberg.

Investigators with the Gresham Police Department and the East Multnomah County Major Crimes Team worked in collaboration to collect evidence to identify and charge Kassab. The case was referred to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, and then presented to a grand jury.
