Victim recounts Friday night shooting incident in Buckman neighborhood

The shooting occurred at The Wurst Bar, next to the Bossanova Ballroom, injuring three people. One of the victims said he heard about a dozen shots fired.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Three people were injured in a shooting late Friday evening in Portland's Buckman neighborhood.

Police were dispatched to East Burnside Street near the intersection with Northeast 7th Avenue at about 11:15 p.m. and found two victims with injuries, according to a press release from the Portland Police Bureau.

The victims were transported by ambulance to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A third victim arrived at the hospital via private vehicle and was treated and released, police said.

The Bossanova Ballroom, which is located on the block of Burnside where the shooting happened, posted a message on its Instagram page late Friday evening stating that "a number of shots" were fired at an incident at The Wurst bar next door.

One of the victims, DeAndre Bush, who goes by Sol.Luna, posted a Facebook message on Saturday morning with a photo of himself in a hospital bed awaiting surgery to have the bullets removed. He said police told him the shooting was unrelated to him and a case of "wrong place wrong time."

Sol.Luna told KGW he was hosting an event at the Bossanova on Friday night and had stepped outside and was standing in front of the nextdoor bar when he heard gunshots and felt one hit him in the shoulder, although he didn't initially realize he had been shot. He dropped to ground when he heard the shots, and was subsequently shot in the thigh.

"I hear all this glass shattering and it's like, at least a dozen bullets were fired," he said. "So I get up and I get into the bar that I was in front of and laid on the ground, and that's when I realized that I'd been shot."

The father of two is concerned about what's happening in Portland.

He said, "It's disappointing cause this is where I raised my kids and I feel unsafe raising them here even."

Two nearby bars were struck by bullets, police said, both of which were open and had customers inside at the time. The Enhanced Community Safety Team responded to assist with the investigation.

Police did not immediately locate any suspects and no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to email crimetips@portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 21-338342.
