Apple's foray into Beaverton bodes well for office space prospects outside of Portland's central city.

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Apple, the high-tech company responsible for the iPhone and other gadgets, has reportedly leased office space in Beaverton, adding shine to already flashy suburban market.

In a second-quarter office market report on the Portland metro area, the real estate firm Colliers noted that Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) had leased 50,000 square feet at 3555 S.W. 153rd. Marketing materials describe the two-story Beaverton Creek Phase IV as being 49,884 square feet in size. The building was constructed as a First Tech Federal Credit Union corporate headquarters for $8 million in 1998, according to Specht.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The company had previously agreed to occupy space at the 7 Southeast Stark building in Portland's Central Eastside Industrial District.
