1 dead, 2 seriously injured in Sunday Portland shootings

Two separate shootings happened in Portland Sunday morning, just an hour apart. A third shooting happened Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday, May 16 an early morning shooting in Old Town Portland seriously injured one person who had to be taken to the hospital.

PORTLAND, Ore. — One person is dead and two are seriously injured after three separate shootings Sunday in Portland. Two of the shootings happened Sunday morning within less than an hour of each other. The third shooting happened Sunday afternoon.

The first shooting happened at 7:21 a.m. in the area of Northwest 6th Avenue and Northwest Flanders Street. The shooting victim, a man, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. He's expected to survive.

The Portland Police Bureau's Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) is investigating this shooting. ECST is asking anyone who witnessed the shooting to reach out and reference case number 21-131700. Tips can also be sent to Crime Stoppers of Oregon via email or online. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

A different shooting happened at 8:34 a.m., less than an hour later, in the 8000 block of North Newman Avenue. When officers arrived they found the victim, 29-year-old Alexandra Arb-Bloodgood, dead. An arrest was made later Sunday. Police arrested Shane Michael Finnell, 25, on charges of murder in the second degree and unlawful use of a weapon. According to police, Finnell is Arb-Bloodgood's brother-in-law.

This marks the 32nd homicide for Portland in 2021.

Sunday's third shooting happened at 4:39 p.m. in the 12600 block of Southeast Taggart Street. Police said the shooting victim, a man, was seriously injured and taken to the hospital. He's expected to survive. ECST is investigating this shooting. Several people were detained as part of the investigation, police said.
