BEAVERTON, Ore — Do you pay for child care in the Beaverton School District? Some families may qualify for up to $1,415 to cover child care costs.
The Beaverton School District will distribute the funds after Washington County has secured a grant through the federal CARES Act. This will provide money for child care to parents and guardians. The BSD will be giving out approximately $2.4 million to families who are eligible and apply for these subsidies. In other words, if you pay for child care, you could be eligible to receive money to help cover some or all of your out-of-pocket expenses.
Eligibility Requirements
The numbers are based off of the Maximum assumed cost per child based on Washington County averages for a child, age 0-3.
You are a parent or guardian who has a child (or children), age 0 (birth) to 17 years old.
You live in the Beaverton School District attendance area. However, your child does not need to be enrolled in the district.
Your child has been enrolled with a licensed child care provider any time after August 1, 2020 and/or your child will be enrolled with a licensed child care provider before December 30, 2020. Check the state’s list of licensed child care providers to verify that your child care provider is licensed.
Your job qualifies you as an “essential worker PDF download”. Qualifying industries include (but are not limited to) health care, public safety, education, food service, grocery, agriculture, energy, water and wastewater, hazardous waste, transportation, logistics, government, public works, communications, information technology, critical manufacturing, defense, finance and housing. If you’re unsure if your job qualifies, simply apply.
Answered “yes” to the above questions? The maximum subsidy child care is $1,415 monthly, per child. Some may only qualify for $415, depending on the listed job(s) a parents or a guardian submits.
BSD officials said each school district in Washington County has a different payout for childcare costs though so eligible parents or a guardian needs to check with their school for specifics.
The BSD will start accepting applications on October 28, 2020. Anyone without internet access can pick up a paper application at the District Office on 16550 Southwest Merlo Drive, Beaverton or at the student's school. Parents or guardians with questions, can email child-care-subsidy@beaverton.k12.or.us.
Other school districts in Washington County are offering similar programs as well including: Forest Grove, Hillsboro, Tigard-Tualatin. Each district has developed its own process to determine eligibility and the process may differ slightly.
These funds will be distributed until they are gone. The district encourages any parents or guardian interested to apply sooner rather than later.
