PORTLAND, Ore. — The Oregon Health Authority on Monday announced another person has died from the coronavirus. It’s the first time the public health agency has reported a COVID-19-related death since May 14. The state’s coronavirus death toll is now 138.

The person who died was a 69-year-old man in Marion County, who tested positive on May 16 and died the same day at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center. He had underlying medical conditions.

The OHA also reported 62 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and two new presumptive cases. Those people live in the following counties:

  • Benton: 3
  • Clackamas: 5
  • Clatsop: 1
  • Deschutes: 5
  • Jackson: 1
  • Lane: 1
  • Malheur: 2
  • Marion: 16
  • Multnomah: 12
  • Umatilla: 5
  • Union: 1
  • Washington: 10
  • Yamhill: 2

The new cases are among 2,957 tests newly reported Monday by the OHA, meaning 2% of tests came back positive.

The proportion of positive test results has been declining as the number of tests completed have increased in Oregon. The OHA said 3.1% of people tested the week of May 2-8 tested positive for the coronavirus, the lowest during the pandemic. Data for last week has not yet been reported.

Oregon has had a total of 3,687 coronavirus cases, including presumptive cases, as of Monday morning. It’s not clear how many of those cases are active infections.

While people presumed to have the virus have not yet tested positive, they have shown COVID-19 symptoms and had close contact with a confirmed case.
