I-84 reopened almost 5 hours after fatal crash involving car, semi

Officers were dispatched at 3:09 a.m. to a report of a crash involving a car and a semi, eastbound on I-84 at 79th Avenue.

PORTLAND, Oregon — A fatal crash closed Interstate 84 eastbound between 39th Avenue and Interstate 205 for nearly 5 hours Tuesday morning, according to Portland police.

Officers were dispatched at 3:09 a.m. to a report of a crash involving a car and a semi, eastbound on I-84 at 79th Avenue.

Arriving officers found a car crashed into the back of a tractor and had been on fire at one point. One person was killed in the crash. The driver of the semi remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

Other motorists may have been involved in the crash or saw it and continued, not realizing what was happening, police said.
