SAN FRANCISCO — The Bay Area home of late Portland Trail Blazers owner and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen went up for sale this week with a top-tier price tag, even for the country's most expensive zip code.

Located in West Atherton, Calif., in the Bay Area, the home was bought by Allen in 2013 for $27 million when it was brand new, according to real estate records. The house features seven bedrooms (five in the main house and two more in the guest house), eight full bathrooms and five half bathrooms, 21,030 square feet of living space, a pool and 1.9 acres of landscaped grass and gardens.

Located on Camino Al Lago, one of Atherton’s most desirable streets, the luxury estate has an expansive resort-like feel. Built by Pacific Peninsula Group in 2013, it was also enhanced under Allen's ownership by architectural and design firm Olson Kundig and landscape designer Pamela Burton.

The three-story, 17,000-square-foot main home features five large bedroom suites, including two master suites, a two-story foyer, an oak-lined library, a formal dining room with a limestone fireplace, powder rooms and spacious terraces ideal for entertaining spaces. The home also includes a large kitchen, family room with sunken bar, mudroom and multiple laundry rooms. There is also a home theatre and snack bar, exercise room with spa bath, a wine cellar and an outdoor patio.

The estate’s designer light fixtures and modern finishes are evident in the guest home as well, which includes two bedroom suites, a living room, full kitchen and a loggia overlooking the home’s gardens and pool. Other features of the property include an attached two-car garage, a detached three-car garage and an adjacent security/estate manager’s office suite. The two-bedroom and two-bath guest house has views of the pool area and a kitchen, great room and fireplace.

Ranked as the most expensive zip code in the country — 94027 — Atherton has been a favorite choice for Bay Area tech billionaires and business icons such as Google’s Eric Schmidt, Hewlett-Packard’s Meg Whitman, Oracle’s Mark Hurd, Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg, and founder and CEO Charles Schwab.

The listing agent is Courtney Charney of Parc Agency.
