SILVERTON, Ore. — A semi-truck and trailer overturned just outside of Silverton, spilling asphalt and diesel on the road and over the embankment.

The accident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on Monday on Silverton Highway near Quall Road, according to the Silverton Fire District.

When crews arrived they found the truck on its side in the middle of the road and the trailer on its side down an embankment. The truck was hauling nearly 40 tons of hot asphalt which spilled during the crash. Nearly 20 gallons of diesel fuel was also spilled.

The driver of the truck was taken to a local hospital.

Fire crews worked to contain the diesel and Silverton Public works and the Truck company worked together to scoop up the asphalt.

The road was still closed just before noon as crews work to remove the truck and trailer from the road.
