PORTLAND, Ore. — A man was shot by his roommate in Oregon City on Friday and the roommate was taken into custody after an hours-long standoff with police.

Oregon City police said they were called at around 3:30 p.m. by a shooting victim in the Mt. View Apartments in the 1800 block of Molalla Avenue. Officers broke a window and helped get the man out of the apartment while the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Daniel Craig Wiese, was still inside, police said. Once the victim was safe, police and SWAT from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office deployed gas into the apartment in an attempt to get Wiese to peacefully surrender. A SWAT member also a shot at Wiese but missed, according to Oregon City police.

Wiese ended up leaving the apartment but was not cooperating with authorities. Less than lethal weapons were deployed and Wiese was eventually taken into custody at around 6:45 p.m.

Wiese was booked into the Clackamas County Jail on charges of attempted murder, assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

Investigators would like to see video of still photos from people in the area that captured part of the SWAT call-out and what led up to it. Investigators are trying to fill any gaps of the event to create a timeline.
