PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Trail Blazers president of basketball operations Neil Olshey has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him in Rip City through the 2024 season, the team announced Friday.
The Blazers reached the Western Conference finals for the first time in 19 years this season. They have made the NBA Playoffs for six consecutive seasons.
“Neil has done an exceptional job finding and keeping the talent that has made the Trail Blazers a perennial playoff team, culminating in this season’s magical run to the Western Conference Finals,” said Jody Allen, sister of the late Blazers owner Paul Allen and Trustee of the Paul G. Allen Trust. “I have great confidence in the culture he has created in Portland, and I look forward to seeing it thrive and grow for years to come.”
Olshey was previously signed on with the Blazers through 2021. In a news release from the team, Olshey said he was honored to continue his tenure in Portland under Jody Allen's leadership.
He has been leading the Blazers front office since 2012. He drafted star guards Damian Lillard (2012) and CJ McCollum (2013).
Olshey's first big move this offseason could be a new deal for Lillard, who is now eligible for a supermax contract extension after making the All-NBA second team this week. Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes reported that Lillard and the Blazers are expected to come to an agreement on the extension adding four years and $191 million to the end of his current contract, which has two years remaining.
During the Blazers exit interviews, Olshey said he hadn't read the Yahoo report. He did, however, preach the importance of organizational stability and announced a contract extension for head coach Terry Stotts.
"We win every year," Olshey said when asked what he likes about having Stotts as the coach. "But it goes beyond just wins and losses. It's alignment. It's partnership. It's knowing the organization is moving forward. It's a commitment to a longer-term view that there are priorities beyond just the next game."
Stotts will be under contract through the 2022 season.
