'It hurts my heart': North Portland house fire ruled arson

The homeowner, Timothy Wilson, was inside the home at the time and was able to escape unharmed.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A house fire in North Portland on May 15 was intentionally set, Portland fire investigators said.

The fire heavily damaged a two-story addition to a home in the 4100 block of North Foss Court. The addition was under construction.

The homeowner, Timothy Wilson, was inside the home at the time and was able to escape unharmed. No firefighters were hurt.

Wilson said he was building the addition to create an extra source of income.

"The whole inside is compromised, we have to tear it up and gut it out and start fresh," he said.

Wilson has lived in the neighborhood since 1997.

"It hurts my heart because me and my contractor put a lot of work into this," he said.

Investigators determined the fire was arson after reviewing evidence at the scene. Further details about the cause were not released.

"I don't have enemies so it had to be someone who doesn't know me," Wilson said. "I hope they find the person who did this so they can get some help. I have a fantastic neighborhood and I don't want people around my neighborhood in fear of someone with that destructive nature."

Portland Fire & Rescue is asking anyone who lives in the neighborhood, or happened to be there on May 15, to call investigators at 503-823-4636.
