PORTLAND, Ore. — Donors who want to see a Democrat take the White House in 2020 have a long list to choose from, and Oregonians in the first quarter of 2019 have given more than $268,000 to 14 candidates in a growing field.

Reflecting the diversity of the candidates, the contributions come from across Oregon and varied backgrounds, from a Baker City resident in the hotel industry who gave $1,500 to South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg to a top Nike executive who supports Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar to the tune of $5,400.

The Portland Business Journal this week is analyzing first-quarter political contributions for the upcoming presidential race. Tuesday we introduced the 35 biggest donors to President Donald Trump, and today we meet the 26 people who gave the most to candidates for the Democratic nomination.

SLIDESHOW: Oregon's biggest donors to Democratic presidential candidates

Donors from the state made more than 2,000 individual contributions, from as little as $1 up to $2,800 with an average of $134. The top donors gave more than $5,000 while the last of the top 25 gave $1,500. About a fifth of the contributions were $5 or less while 68 contributions — 3 percent — were $1,000 or more.

The list of those receiving donations does not include some heavy-hitting candidates such as former Vice President Joe Biden, who officially entered the race April 25, and it also has some little known names like writer and activist Marianne Williamson.

Click on the slideshow link above to see who gave the most last quarter. Check back tomorrow when we rank the candidates by how much they hauled in from the state residents.
