Man arrested for woman's murder in rural Marion County

Derek Johnson, 39, of Portland, is charged with murder.

JEFFERSON, Ore. — Detectives arrested a Portland man for the murder of a Marion County woman over the weekend, authorities said.

Robin Stender, 55, of Jefferson, was found dead Saturday in a home in the 12000 block of Twin Creeks Lane SE in rural Marion County.

An autopsy confirmed Stender died of asphyxiation and blunt force trauma, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

According to officials, deputies responded to the scene shortly before 11:10 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports of a possible assault at the location. Police found Stender's body in the home.

Detectives arrested Derek Johnson, 39, on one count of murder.

Deputies say that they don't believe there is any danger to the public.

No other information is being released at this time.
