Woman walking on NE Airport Way dies after being hit by car

The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A woman was struck by a car and killed near Northeast Airport Way and Northeast 138th Avenue on Tuesday night, according to Portland police.

At 8:55 p.m., officers and medical personnel arrived at the crash scene and found a deceased woman lying underneath a Lincoln Navigator.

The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police.

Based on an initial investigation, police believe the driver was traveling east on Northeast Airport Way and struck the woman, who had been walking on the street.

Investigators don’t believe intoxication was a factor in the crash.

Police are withholding the woman’s identity until after the Medical Examiner has completed an autopsy and family has been notified.

Northeast Airport Way is closed between Northeast 122nd Avenue and Northeast 138th Avenue during the crash investigation, police said.
