Oregon man arrested for trying to buy car with pot

Police say the man wanted to trade a substantial amount of marijuana for a car being sold online by an Albany dealer. Investigators intervened, arrested the suspect and seized more than 5 lbs. of pot.

ALBANY, Ore. — An Oregon man was arrested after allegedly trying to buy a car with several pounds of pot.

An Albany car dealer posted the car for sale online last week, according to Capt. Brad Liles of the Albany Police Department.

"The dealer received a message from a potential buyer requesting to trade a substantial amount of marijuana for the vehicle," said Liles, who added that dealer immediately called police.

An investigator talked with the potential buyer, 38-year-old Matthew Theron Franks of Independence, and arranged the deal, Liles said.

Franks arrived to make the trade and was greeted by the Linn Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Taskforce. Officers seized more than 5 lbs. of marijuana and jailed Franks on a charge of unlawful delivery of marijuana.
