Suspect charged in officer-involved shooting near Jesuit High

A grand jury indicted the suspect, 22-year-old Anthony A. Shaner, on three counts of unlawful use of a weapon. A 7-Eleven employee and two officers are listed as his victims.

BEAVERTON, Ore. — A Beaverton police officer shot and wounded a man who allegedly threatened three people with a large knife near Jesuit High School on Sept. 7.

According to Beaverton police, officers responded to the report of a man riding a bike while holding a knife in the 8500 block of Southwest Apple Way around 8:30 a.m.

When officers arrived in the area, they saw a man, later identified as the suspect, 22-year-old Anthony A. Shaner, leaving the 7-Eleven store at 9145 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy. An employee told police that the suspect threatened him with a knife.

Police said Shaner then entered the Bottle Drop, located at 9307 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Highway. Officers entered the business and he pulled out the knife, holding it in his right hand while facing them.

Shaner went outside, where an officer shot him during a confrontation, police said. Shaner was conscious and breathing when he was taken to a hospital. But his condition was not released.

In a statement on Monday, police identified the officer as Dan Coulson, a 22-year veteran of the Beaverton Police Department. He was placed on leave during the investigation.

Police also said a grand jury indicted Shaner on three counts of unlawful use of a weapon. The 7-Eleven employee and two officers are listed as the victims. Shaner will be taken into custody when he is released from the hospital.
