PORTLAND, Ore. — A man charged with murder after a woman was found dead in a van in North Portland in July, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and second-degree attempted assault on Monday.
Terry Hickman, 58, will receive a 17-year prison sentence for the death of 29-year-old Dallas Boyd, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office. Formal sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 2, 2019.
The crime occurred sometime between July 13-17, according to the district attorney's office.
At around 3:15 p.m. on July 20, a community member in the 5300 block of North Lombard Street told Portland police officers about a possible murder in the area.
Officers arrived and met with Hickman, 58, who requested an attorney, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Hickman then confessed to choking a woman in a van until she stopped breathing. He gave consent to search the van, where police found Boyd's body.
The Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office determined she died of homicidal violence.
Hickman, listed as a transient, was charged with murder.
