Authorities say a driver was struck and killed by a minivan shortly after crashing into a gas pump in Oregon City.

OREGON CITY, Ore. — Authorities say a driver was struck and killed by a minivan shortly after crashing into a gas pump in Oregon City.

Oregon City Police said the driver, 37-year-old John William Pundyk of Oregon City, plowed into the pump at about 3:45 a.m. Monday, igniting a fire at the gas station located on Oregon 213 and Clackamas River Drive. Pundyk then ran onto Highway 213, where he was fatally struck.

The crashes remain under investigation.

There were reports that a person was seen running from the gas station after the crash. As crews battled the fire, the department received word that a pedestrian had been struck and killed across a berm from the gas station.

Two pumps at the station were destroyed, firefighters said. Some gas spilled onto the pavement but flames were brought under control.
