PORTLAND, Ore. – A Portland production company’s new documentary is allowing people to see and experience the Grand Canyon like many never have before.

“As it is” is a virtual reality film produced by 360 Labs. Viewers can see the Grand Canyon in full 360-degree video.

The immersive video gives viewers a chance to run the rapids of the Colorado River and view the Grand Canyon from the ground up.

The film’s title comes from a speech by President Theodore Roosevelt, who in 1903 urged everyone not to disturb the natural wonder. “Leave it as it is,” he said after visiting the canyon.

But that hasn't been the case, and one of the mile-deep canyon’s most sacred places may not be left undisturbed. A proposed billion-dollar tramway development and resort would bring as many as 10,000 people a day to the Confluence, a sacred site to the Navajo and Hopi tribes, where the Little Colorado and Colorado rivers meet.

The film introduces viewers to the activists who are fighting against the development, known as the Escalade Proposal, at the heart of the canyon.

“As it is” is available on Samsung VR, Littlstar, VeeR, Vimeo and Facebook
