HILLSBORO, Ore. – The Washington County Courthouse was temporarily evacuated Tuesday afternoon after a suspicious package was found on a nearby sidewalk.

The package ended up being a cooler full of garbage.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office first tweeted about the evacuation at 12:45 p.m. The scene was cleared shortly after 2 p.m. and courthouse business will resume at 3 p.m.

North 1st Avenue was closed between Main and Jackson streets as authorities investigated the package. The Washington County Sheriff's Office robot team was assisted by Hillsboro police and the Portland police bomb squad.
