Wanted suspect faces at least 30 charges after standoff in Portland

A wanted suspect was arrested after an hours-long standoff in Northeast Portland Wednesday evening.

PORTLAND, Ore. – A wanted suspect was arrested after an hours-long standoff in Northeast Portland Wednesday evening.

The suspect, identified by the Portland Police Bureau as 28-year-old David Sanders, is being held at the Multnomah County Jail on dozens of charges, including felon in possession of a firearm, attempt to elude and identity theft. At around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, Portland Police Gang Enforcement Team officers saw Sanders enter a home in the 5900 block of Northeast 12th Avenue.

Officers instructed Sanders to come out for about 3 1/2 hours before he was taken into custody.

Based on warrant information and Sanders' criminal history, specially trained officers from the Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the scene. The Special Emergency Reaction Team and Crisis Negotiation Team took Sanders into custody.

Sanders faces the following charges:

  • Attempt to elude by vehicle (3 counts)
  • Unlawful use of a motor vehicle (3 counts)
  • Possession of a stolen motor vehicle (3 counts)
  • Failure to perform the duty of a driver — property damage, reckless driving (3 counts)
  • Identity theft (3 counts)
  • Felon in possession of a firearm (2 counts)
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm (2 counts)
  • Interfere with a peace officer (2 counts)
  • Possession of a loaded weapon (2 counts)
  • Identity theft (2 counts)
  • Possession of an illegal weapon
  • Forgery in the first degree
  • Provide false information to a peace officer
  • Reckless endangering
  • Attempt to elude on foot

Portland Police said Sanders may face additional charges.
