Police identify suspect in Vancouver hit-and-run

Police located the suspect vehicle but the driver backed into a patrol car and fled the scene when an officer approached.

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Police have identified a suspect in a hit-and-run accident that left a pedestrian with serious injuries Friday night.

The pedestrian was crossing at East 13th Street and Daniels Street when they were hit at around 6:15 p.m.

Police believe the driver who struck the victim was Christopher Nichols, 54.

Nichols is a white male, 5'8" tall, 280 pounds, with red hair, hazel eyes and gray facial hair. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, black hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants.

The victim’s injuries are not life-threatening, police said.

Nichols was last seen driving a maroon 1988 Ford Thunderbird with WA license plate 927YZV, the vehicle police think was involved in the crash.

After police located the vehicle, the driver backed into a patrol car, causing minor damage, and fled the scene when an officer approached, police said.

Officers attempted to catch the suspect but were unable to do so. No officers were hurt.

An investigation is ongoing.
