Tigard hit-and-run damages student's parked car

Officers in Tigard are looking for a hit-and-run driver who damaged a parked car.

TIGARD, Ore. -- Officers in Tigard are looking for a hit-and-run driver who damaged a parked car.

“I’m feeling really upset,” said Nick Kirwan.

Kirwan had parked his 2000 Volkswagen Passat outside his girlfriend’s house near Southwest Johnson Street and Grant Avenue. He says early Thursday morning somebody hit his car and took off. Kirwan’s girlfriend heard the commotion.

“I heard this major crash and I thought two cars had collided with each other,” said Robin Martin-Kestler.

She was right. The impact was so powerful that Kirwan’s car was pushed more than 10 feet.

“I couldn’t believe it,” he said.

Kirwan’s girlfriend immediately started scouring the neighborhood for the suspect, but it was fruitless. The driver had vanished.

“Maybe someone was driving without a license,” said Kirwan. “Even less likely maybe the car was stolen or maybe someone was driving mom and dad’s car and they didn’t want to call their parents.”

The theories are endless, but what is clear is the impact on Kirwan, a full-time student who was looking to sell his car for a little cash.

“It’s kind of been a fixer-upper for me and now it’s torn up and I don’t know what to do about it,” he said.

Based on car parts left at the scene, Kirwan thinks the suspect vehicle is a white Mercedes or Mini Cooper.
